How to control everything you own with your phone...

Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the buzziest phrases of the past few years. But... what exactly does it mean? If you are at all like me, you just want someone to cut the buzz for you so that you can decide whether or not you should pay attention.

Well here you go, consider this your buzz phrase cutting PSA: You should care about IoT!

Why? So glad you asked. Here is my personal definition of IoT.

IoT is about controlling your stuff (your every day products that you touch and benefit from regularly) from your phone, watch, computer, or tablet.

We recently asked our community the following question...

IF YOU COULD CHOOSE ONE ORDINARY THING TO CONTROL WITH YOUR PHONE, WHAT WOULD IT BE_

If you could choose one ordinary thing to control with your phone, what would it be? In other words, what is your #dailystruggle that is easily solvable with a little IoT? Here are some answers we got:

1. Coffee machine (obviously)

2. Fireplace

3. Front door lock

4. Oven (for when you are starving on your way home to cook that frozen dinner!)

5. Car air conditioner (for optimal temps before you get in!)

Ya feelin' any of these struggles? I bet you are, because you are a person and you live in America.

Most, if not all, of these products have already been wifi enabled by big companies, and come with apps that control them - for a very premium price.

But what about IoT for common people who like to consider themselves mildly inventive?

Well, my friend, that industry has not yet tapped out.

This is why we are opening up a super unique class for one time only (for now).

This beginner friendly class is going to walk you through the process of building an app, and then making a product that connects to it! HOW FUN IS THAT? The best part is that it is for anyone. You don't have to be a product developer, an engineer, a coder, or even a business person!

We are teaming up with pro product developers to bring you the best workshop style course possible.

Here is a little bit about Enventys:

Enventys has helped file more than 700 patents, launched hundreds of products and built dozens of companies from the ground up. They have raised over $150 million through crowdfunding and helped hundreds of companies streamline their digital marketing strategy. They have been featured multiple times on the 2 time Emmy® Award Winning PBS TV Show, Everyday Edisons. The show and Enventys were both founded by Louis Foreman.

Jeremy is an Enventys team member that will be teaching the IoT portion of the course. Check out his "Getting Started in IoT" blog here!
